Sustainable surf gear is important to the surf community because it has much less of a negative environmental impact…especially on the world’s oceans.

Here is a short list of sustainable surf gear:

Eco Surf Boards:

Surfing Green: -Surfing Green is all about sustainable surf products, boards and accessories.

The ECOBOARD Project: ECOBOARDS have the same technical performance attributes as any modern water-sport board, while having reduced environmental and toxic impacts – through the use of more sustainable materials and manufacturing processes.

Lost Surfboards and Matt Biolos: Together they have created a carbon-cork composite board with an exposed cork deck, so no fiberglass is needed.

Earth Technologies (E-Tech): This company is a surfboard and paddle factory that combines multiple sustainable, natural, and recycled components to their boards.

Moss Research Eco-flex Surfboards: Their mission is to minimize environmental impact by innovating and implementing the most sustainable practices possible.

Firewire Board: This brand builds high performance surfboards and accessories through innovative design, materials and construction methods that have low impact on the environment.

 

Surfboard Fins:

EcoFin: This company has created the first sustainable surfboard fin based on ocean waste

 

Surf Wax:

Tree Hugger: Treehugger All Natural Surf Wax has been created with the environmentally conscious surfer in mind.

Matunas Sustainable Surf Wax: The original eco-friendly sustainable surf wax company, Matunas has been at the forefront of organic surf wax since they started production in 1998.

 

Surf Bags:

PanDan Bali: This company produces biodegradable board bags and mats hand-made in Bali. Their products are eco-friendly becuase the company has replaced plastics and rubber with the natural and sustainable Pandan weave.

 

Surf Leash

Wave Tribe Leash: This leash is made from 100 percent recycled urethane, and comes with a one-year guarantee that promises you’ll get a replacement if you manage to break it in the first 12 months

 

Surf Sunscreen:

Surfyogis: This company’s products are made with natural, clean ingredients including chocolate, beeswax & coconut oil.

Manda: Looking for a more sustainable sunscreen. No harmful chemicals and ingredients are used while making Manda sun paste 100% non toxic and they are reef safe.

SurfScreen Organic Products: This company successfully developed a sunscreen brand that does not harm our oceans or cover your body with unwanted chemicals.

Summit and Sea Organic Sunscreen: Their mission is to protect people from the sun as well as produce truly sustainable products, reduce our environmental impact through responsible transparent business, inspire clean and conscious living.

Shade Sunscreen: Mineral based sunscreens and after-sun products that allow athletes, beach babes, parents and their children, have access to superior protection from UV exposure, while still being conscious of your body, skin and the environment. All of their formulas are free of chemical sunscreens, parabens, glycols, and animal derived ingredients.

 

Sustainable Wetsuits

Patagonia Yulex: Yulex wetsuits are made from a renewable material that performed as well, or better, than traditional neoprene.

Henderson: Henderson Wetsuits utilize limestone-based polychloroprene for most of its neoprene products. Doing this reduces their dependence on oil and oil-derived chemicals. 

Swish: Eco-technical apparel for women in the water. Girl power! 

 
Eco Swim Wear:

Odina Surf: This company produces women’s adventure wear made from recycled plastics.

Kai Kini: These bikinis are eco-friendly, ethically made bikinis. 

Riz Board Shorts: This company crafts quality men’s board shorts which are made from recycled plastic bottles

Azura Bay Swimwear: Azura products are ethically made in California and fair trade facilities in India. They use eco fabrics, recycled fibers, waterless digital printing and low energy factories to produce their products.
